DELTA-THERM
> MINERAL INSULATED HEATING CABLES
The Delta-Therm
mineral insulated (MI) heating cable assembly is a built-to-order
factory fabricated assembly, 100% factory tested (passing a 24-hour
submersion test) before shipping, and specified for its rugged
construction. The MI cable assembly arrives on-site ready-to-install
helping to lower field time, labor costs, and material waste.
- Constant wattage output along
heated length
- Specify wattage output up to 35
watts per lineal foot for copper sheath and up to 50 watts per
lineal foot for stainless steel sheath
- Specify voltage from 12 volts up
to 480 VAC
- Constructed of non-flammable
materials that do not degrade
- Raw MI cable inventoried and
assemblies built-to-order; typically ships within 2 weeks
of ordering
- 10-year warranty
MI Cable Construction
MI
cable consists of either one or two conductor resistance heating
wire embedded in highly compressed magnesium oxide, covered by
either copper or alloy 825 stainless steel sheath. An extruded high
density polyethylene (HDPE) overjacket may be ordered to provide
optimal mechanical and corrosion protection.
Delta-Therm's
Patented MI Cable Assembly Termination Design
The MI cable
assembly end termination consists of a thermal gradient section
butt-connected to 19 strand THWN cold leads. The cold leads are
crimped and soldered to the thermal gradient section, insulated with
a high-dielectric, high-temperature tape, and epoxy potted in a
rigid brass sleeve. The thermal gradient section is silver soldered
to the heating wire and protected by a rigid brass sleeve packed
with magnesium oxide.
MI
cable assemblies come standard with 20' of cold lead. However, the
cold lead can be specified to any length. Specifying cold lead
length allows junction boxes to be located inside of a dry location.
1999 NEC Code: 426-28 Equipment Protection
Ground-fault protection of equipment shall be provided for fixed
outdoor electric de-icing and snow melting equipment except for
equipment which employs mineral-insulated, metal-sheathed cable
embedded in a noncombustible medium (such as cement)
